Iraqi summers pass 45°C, and winters are cold, especially early in the morning and in the north. So it's not enough for a piece to look nice — the fabric decides whether your child is comfortable all day. Here is a short guide to the right fabric for each season.

1. 100% cotton: first choice for summer and babies

Cotton absorbs sweat, breathes and rarely irritates the skin. That makes it best for:

  • Baby clothes and anything worn against the skin (onesies, pajamas, underwear).
  • Everyday summer clothes: T-shirts, light dresses, shorts.
  • Children with eczema or sensitive skin.
Tip: a "cotton blend" (cotton with some polyester or elastane) shrinks less and stretches more — good for pants and tracksuits.

2. Linen: for the hottest days

Linen is lighter and cooler than cotton but creases easily — nice for summer party shirts and light dresses.

3. For winter: fleece, knit and denim

  • Fleece (lined): very warm, light and quick-drying — perfect for tracksuits and hoodies.
  • Wool and knit: for cardigans and sweaters; choose soft or cotton-blend knits, as pure wool can itch.
  • Denim: tough and play-proof, great for jackets and pants in spring and autumn.
  • Velvet: warm and elegant for winter party and Eid dresses.

4. When to avoid polyester

Pure polyester doesn't absorb sweat, so skip it for summer clothes and sleepwear. It is useful for wind-resistant outer jackets and for party tulle skirts (with a cotton lining inside).

5. Washing right makes clothes last

  1. 1Wash coloured clothes inside out in cold or lukewarm water (30°C).
  2. 2Separate whites from colours, and wash denim alone the first couple of times.
  3. 3Dry knitwear flat so it doesn't stretch, and avoid hot tumble-drying cotton.
  4. 4Use a gentle baby detergent for newborn clothes.

6. Shop by fabric

At Kolshzin Fashion you can filter every section by fabric and season: browse cotton baby clothing, fleece-lined boys' sets for winter, and girls' dresses for summer and parties.
